Wang Xiaojiu is a poor but kind-hearted man who marries into a wealthy family. He is constantly belittled and looked down upon by his father-in-law, Wang Zhendong, and mother-in-law, Wang Yuting, for being an unfavored son-in-law. They see him as an inferior replacement for their late elder son, Wang Xiaoming, who was favored by them for his good education and career. Despite this, Xiaojiu treats his in-laws with respect and hard work, trying to prove himself worthy of their love and acceptance. He even helps the family business by increasing profits through his innovative ideas. However, Zhendong and Yuting remain unimpressed, viewing Xiaojiu's success as a fluke.
